Frist Pick Bryant Johnson WR

Player evaluation:
Bryant Johnson
War Room analysis
Hands: Has improved here, as has his concentration and focus. Has long arms and is athletic enough to adjust to poorly thrown balls. Has good leaping ability and can make spectacular catches. Pulls down the ball well over his head and on the run. Grade: 8.2

Patterns: Has great size. Is mostly a possession receiver. Is strong and drives defenders off the line well. Is fearless in going over the middle. Has learned to use size to his advantage. Is fluid in running routes and shows good recognition. Is a big, physical target. Has adequate speed; won't run past many NFL cornerbacks. Isn't much of a deep threat. Has some trouble gaining separation. Grade: 8.0

Run after catch: A tough runner who gains speed as he goes. Plucks well on the run and immediately gets upfield. Shows good body control and flashes some change-of-direction skills. Gets what is available, but not much more. Lacks great burst and elusiveness. Doesn't make many defenders miss in the open field. Takes a while to reach top-end speed. Grade: 7.4

Release: Must win with size and strength, because he lacks great suddenness and initial quickness. Will have more trouble here in the NFL. Won't beat cornerbacks deep if he breaks press, so more of them will challenge him at the line. Grade: 7.5

Blocking: This is a real strength. Shows initial pop at the point of attack. Is competitive and works to get downfield. Takes pride in this facet. Grade: 8.0

Bottom line: Johnson lacks great speed and won’t be much of a vertical threat, but he has the size, leaping ability and hands to create matchup problems in the red zone. Johnson isn’t explosive enough to draft in the first round, but he is a good second-round value because he should develop into a solid No. 2 receiver.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is big, tough and physical. Shows strong hands, and catches passes away from his body. Is athletic enough to adjust to passes in midair. Can make circus catches. Fights for the ball. Is consistent. Works the middle of the field well. Could run better routes. Is an unselfish and team-oriented. Is a good blocker.

I'm super surprised that the Cards took a WR with this pick (even though we all know it's a need), but I like Johnson. I watched a lot of Penn State last year (about the only college team I pay attention to) and think he'll be good for the Cards.

Still can't believe it though. Can't believe they didn't take Suggs. Can't believe they didn't take a defensive player and quarterback with these two 1st round picks. (Although we haven't seen the 18th pick yet.)

Well those who argued with me

when we lost David Boston that Rod knew what he was doing and he deserves the right that we not blow our horn until camp starts. Well, as a direct result of losing DB we had to draft this kid instead of drafting Suggs?????? This is plain out dumb!!

If I was Mac I would want off of this train

Well I know I want off this train. Unfortunately I knw that if I jump off, I'll end up getting my foot caught in some rope and just get dragged town the tracks.

No thanks, I'll stay back here in the caboose and keep drinking, so that I'm nice and relaxed when this train wreck of a season rolls around.

Okay, I was surprised we traded down and missed out on Suggs or Leftwich. I was tempted to eat my own head but reisisted. Instead I watched ESPN for Ed Burmilia and saw him turn into the senator from X-Men. (Remember the scene where Magneto turned the senator into a jellyfish. But later his cells broke down and he turned into water and washed off the exam table) The expression on the senator's face as his cells broke down is what Ed looked like as the Cards took their first two picks.**Just kidding** I never saw Ed on TV. Actually, ESPN the magazine had Bryant Johnson rated as the 3rd best WR in the draft and Calvin Pace, though rated as the #9 DE, is described as a "speed rusher who can hunt down quarterbacks". (This next to a nice picture of him sacking a QB.) The Cards' third pick is Anquan Boldin who is rated as the #12 overall WR. Jerry Sullivan must be giddy right now with the WR's we've added. Both guys weigh like 215.

Can you please give me a link for this website? I like to look up lots of players. I've been using it the last 3 years, but I can't find it today.

Miami … playing against All-American cornerback Phillip Buchanan he gained 149 yards on 6 catches and a 44-yard touchdown
