As Travis Kelce proceeds through the twilight of his Hall of Fame career, the Kansas City Chiefs need to identify and develop new offensive weapons capable of handling heavy target shares. Rashee Rice flashed potential in 2023, but his off-field concerns and upcoming free agency put the Chiefs in the market for a true top option.

Clemson Tigers wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. is a tall, lean athlete with a loose and agile lower half that makes him a mismatch for many cornerbacks. He still needs to expand his release package and eliminate some concentration drops, but his athletic tools suggest he could emerge as a mid-to-late first round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Wesco is not a true vertical threat, but he builds to a respectable top speed and uses his long strides to separate late during downfield routes. He thrives at the intermediate level of the field due to his ability to recognize and manipulate leverage, route salesmanship and explosive breaks at the top of the stem.

Wesco uses consecutive sharp cuts or route fakes to keep cornerbacks guessing. When it’s time to actually snap off the route’s stem, Wesco displays the agility and looseness to drop his hips, suddenly decelerate and work across the cornerback’s face into space. Very few wide receivers with Wesco’s size possess his nifty route running and ability to generate natural separation.

Wesco’s traits make him a quarterback’s best friend on comebacks and curls. His long strides and natural feel for finding space help him cut through two-high coverages that expose the deep middle of the field. Wesco needs to finish more contested catches, but he makes some of the craziest contested plays fans see in a given season.

Wesco frustrates defenses after the catch. He makes the most of his blocks and is difficult for defenders to face one-on-one in space. Wesco isn’t twitchy but uses a combination of dead legs, jump cuts, side-steps and spins to find extra yardage. His acceleration and top speed allow him to erase some pursuit angles for game-changing plays.

Wesco suffered a season-ending spinal/back injury in 2025 that required surgery, but he recently revealed he was medically cleared to return to play. With Antonio Williams now in the NFL, fans should expect Wesco to carry the majority of Clemson’s passing attack.
