July 1st was a big day for a handful of college football programs, as it marked the date that they officially changed apparel partners and flipped over to a new brand. For the Penn State Nittany Lions, Wednesday marked their first day as members of the Adidas group, switching from their long-time partnership with Nike.
At midnight, Penn State's 33-year relationship with Nike ended, and their new deal with Adidas started, reportedly valued at roughly $300 million over 10 years.
Penn State celebrated the occasion by unveiling their new-look jerseys, now with three stripes on the chest rather than the Swoosh. If we're being honest, that might be the most notable difference from the new look as compared to the old one.
The helmets remain largely untouched: clean white, with a blue stripe down the middle. The jersey tops look similar; a deep blue with white numbers on the chest and shoulders, a Nittany Lions logo on the collar, and Big Ten and Adidas logos on the chest. The pants are also unchanged, other than the Adidas logo on the hip.
For a school as steeped in tradition as Penn State, many fans likely look at this with a sigh of relief, seeing that their new partnership didn't lead to a loss of history. The Nittany Lions will still look the same on Saturdays, for a uniform perspective, but hopefully see some of the winning ways return under new head coach Matt Campbell.
