Last week, local high school sports fans were able to vote from a list of nominees for the EZ Cash of Delaware, Inc. Boys and Girls Bayside South Team's of the Year for the 2025-26 season. And when the polls closed and the votes were tallied, two fall sports teams from Stephen Decatur High School won each poll to win the Team of the Year awards.
The boys and girls soccer teams from Stephen Decatur each won the EZ Cash of Delaware, Inc. Boys and Girls Bayside South Team's of the Year poll's last week after each walked away from the fall season with championship victories.
Stephen Decatur's boys soccer team was the best team not just in the Bayside Conference, but in all of Maryland, as it won the MPSSAA Class 3A State Championship. After dominating the Bayside on its way to a conference title, Decatur carried its dominance over to the state playoffs, bringing home the school's second ever boys soccer state title. Everything culminated in a convincing 4-1 state title win over Centennial, where it triumphed as the best 3A team in the state. Decatur's Cruz Henson and Isaiah Rodriguez each scored twice in the 4-1 win.
Stephen Decatur's girls soccer team also won a major championship in the fall of 2025 that had long eluded its grasp, as it won its first Bayside Championship since 2001. Coming into the season, Decatur's rivals the James M. Bennett Clippers had dominated the Bayside Conference, having won three consecutive titles. But Decatur was able to beat them to the Bayside South title with a decisive 1-0 late-season victory. And in the Bayside Championship game against Queen Anne's, the lone goal in its 1-0 victory was scored by Samantha Ruppert, earning the conference title win over the Seahawks.

Coming in second place in the Boys Team of the Year poll was Wicomico's Boys Basketball team, which made it to the Class 2A State Championship Game in the final season of legendary head coach Butch Waller. And in second place in the Girls Team of the Year poll was the Mardela Softball team, which won back-to-back Class 1A State Championships in dominant fashion.
