Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has gotten off to an amazing start to the 2026 season, marking a real turning point with the Italian team at a pivotal stage in his career.

Hamilton signed a two-year deal with Ferrari before the 2025 season, with an option for 2027 as well.

Now in the second year of the contract, Hamilton and Ferrari are at a crucial point, with the option decision to be made.

According to Giuliano Duchessa of AutoRacer it, Hamilton’s sitting in third place in the Drivers’ Championship has him in line for an automatic one-year extension.

Additionally, the reporter added that the only roadblock for the deal at this point would be Hamilton, who has considered stepping away from the team during last year’s rough stretch.

However, since Hamilton has emerged with a newfound sense of purpose this year, it seems impossible that he walks away from the Ferrari project.

The timeline for Hamilton’s renewal falls around the Italian Grand Prix, rather than his home grand prix. Italy falls after the summer break, a time when the clause should be established.

He currently sits in third place for the title, with a 45-point cushion over fourth-place Oscar Piastri, heading into the British Grand Prix.

Additionally, Hamilton is only six points down on George Russell for second and 46 points behind Kimi Antonelli for the championship lead.

Lewis Hamilton’s message on future

Regarding his future, Hamilton seems very sure he will continue with the team and remains focused on the long term.

“Yep. I’m still in contract. So everything’s 100% clear to me. And yeah, I’m still focused. I’m still motivated,” Hamilton stated.

“I still love what I do with all my heart. And I’m going to be here for quite some time. So get used to it. There’s a lot of people that are trying to retire me. And that’s not even on my thoughts.

“I’m already thinking of what will be next. And planning for the next five years. But yeah, I still plan to be here for some time.”
