The NFL’s popularity in the US remains unmatched, and it was proven once again during the Hall of Fame Game.
The US is home to some of the most popular sports on the planet. Be it basketball, football, baseball, or hockey.
Evidently, each sport has a phenomenal league that continues to produce amazing talents on a yearly basis.
But even among these four, the NFL is undoubtedly the most popular league, and the 2026 Hall of Fame Game showed how wide the gap is between them.

NFL Hall of Fame Game’s viewership is concerning for MLB and NHL
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game is a yearly tradition that announces the arrival of the NFL in the preseason.
Speaking of which, the 2026 edition of the game was played this weekend, and for a preseason game, it had phenomenal viewership. In fact, it was more than MLB’s most-viewed game this season and any of the last season’s Stanley Cup matches.
Evidently, fans had a lot to say after seeing this statistic, with most appreciating the popularity of football in the US.
“In America, football is King!” a fan wrote. While another added, “Basically telling the NFL that they can do whatever they want.”
A third fan suggested, “The MLB and NHL need to allow streaming of games for a small fee.”
“People really need to expand their sports interests,” a fourth fan stated. While a fifth fan simply said, “Thinking that people really missed football.”
To be fair, the lack of NFL regular-season games certainly creates intrigue around any and every football game. Moreover, the Hall of Fame Game being scheduled in the middle of the season also helps in viewership.
