Alan Faneca’s agent said Friday that Larry Fitzgerald’s drawn-out contract talks with the Cardinals cost Arizona a chance to land Faneca, the well-regarded, free-agent offensive lineman.
“They would 100 percent be in this thing if Larry had redone his deal,” said Rick Smith, Faneca’s Chicago-based agent.
“Larry is going to cost them Alan Faneca. It’s a fact.”

At the risk of sounding pro-graves..

This is a penny-pinching id welcome.. G isn't in our Top 3 needs, and we could use the money we'd pay Faneca to ink Dansby long term.

what did he think we should have done! leave Fitz on the back burner - deal is done and time for an agent to make his money and get something done.

at least he didnt think that the money has cost us and it was just the time issue.

Smith would not say where Faneca, a former LSU standout who had spent his entire 10-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is headed but said, “It’s definitely not going to be Arizona. It really sucks.”

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is clear that Faneca wants to be here. To me, it is clear that Whiz would love to have him. OG is, IMO, our 3rd biggest need, and there aren't players at our biggest need positions (CB and OLB) that are nearly as good. So I say again...AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! Stupid Cardinals!

I absolutely agree. Start Faneca and move Wells to compete for the tackle jobs and our OL improves dramatically.

Dansby is already on the books for 8+ mil, a long term deal for him would only lower the cap hit. Obviously I wouldn't be interested in Faneca for what he signed with the Jets, but from the tone of the article sounds as though he would have given a discount to Wiz/Grimm.

He didn't sign with the Jets. The rumor was debunked and the above article confirms it.

Well in that case cut Shipp and restructure Gandy and find out how much he wants. Of course I'm sure Gandy's agent is aware of our predicament and will play hard ball, but who knows.

I heard he has promised the Jets an answer by 6:00pm est tonight. Heard this on NFL network.

Hopefully he's trying to work a deal with the Cards by using that as a deadline. And hopefully we come to our frakkin' senses and sign him. We can cut Shipp and probably have the space to do it, so do it. It's clear he wants to be here.

The Cards could make some roster moves, as Darren Urban suggested in his blog.

Let me ask everyone this question: if it came down to acquiring Faneca and having to part with Gandy, Shipp and Terrelle Smith...would you be OK with that?

I certainly would. We could slide Wells over to tackle where he belongs. I have always loved Marcel Shipp, but we are going to add another back in this draft and he may be gone because of that anyway...and I thought Terrelle Smith was only average last year.

I would even strongly consider releasing Kurt Warner if it meant getting Faneca. Warner is not the starter...he's got one year left...and yes it's great having him in the wings, but Faneca's addition is too important to screw up. As I said, Warner would have one more year and Faneca would be leading this line to playoff berths the next four years.

You had me until the release Warner part. Still need him. Shipp is a no brainer to me and I agree that Smith was nothing special.

Here is my conspiracy theory for the day... Faneca wants to come here, but we lack the cap room, so Graves asks Faneca's agent to leak this to put some pressure on Fitz to sign this weekend so that Faneca's deal can be completed in AZ come Monday??????? What are the odds????

I would release Shipp regardless. I would try and keep Gandy as well. I pretty sure we'd have the caproom. Terrelle Smith i would let go if needed. With Lorenzo Neal out there,Smith would be pretty easy to re-sign later if we wanted. I wonder if Graves is trying to re-structure Gandy as well? We could free up enough cap space for Faneca by doing that. Plus, the Cards hold the leverage in that deal,re-structure or be cut, because we'd have Faneca.

I've thought about similar moves but I am really concerned about yet another major reshuffling of the offensive line. In your scenario we would have a new LT (Brown) a new LG (Faneca) and a new RT(Wells).

It actually wouldn't surprise me, especially since his agent specifically mentioned Fitz and his agent. He could have just as easily not mentioned the Cards at all, or at the very least just said "Faneca would love to be reunited with the Grimm, but its probably not going to happen."

Any chance if getting Faneca ended when his agent threw a future team mate, his agent and by extension the Cards FO under the bus!!!

Doesn't this piss anyone off? This, coupled with the Fitz story from cbssportsline really has me upset.

-Wiz came to Fitz and told him everything that was on the line if he didn't come to terms quickly.
-Fitz and his agent were offered a contract that would make him the 3rd highest paid non-QB in the league.
-Fitz comes out in a chat saying he wants to be a Cardinal for life.
-The thread about Denny Green's comments when Fitz first signed this deal let everyone know right away that the last 2 yrs needed to be re-negotiated. How would Denny know this if the escalators in his contract were "untouchable" and that this has never been done before.
-Agents of players who want to be in AZ and could help the Cards come out and say that Fitz is the reason their player isn't in Cardinal Red???

Honestly, has anyone ever heard the agent of a FA say something like this before????

To me it sounds like Faneca wants to be in Arizona and they are also trying to put the pressure on Fitz. Too bad Parker doesn't represent Faneca as well. He could double up his commission and get both guys on the Cardinals.

This to me, just screams of one player trying to hamstring an organization. Players and agents usually don't do this kind of talking about other players and agents.

I think it proves the fact that Fitz and his agent are trying to leverage our future development for his personal gain.

Willy Wonka taught me long ago to not be so selfish.

I kind of agree with you, but I also agree with Canuck. It will be hard to integrate the two players after ones agent has so publicly called out the other.

I guess that since it was the agent, Faneca and Fitz might be able to patch this up. We shall see.
