As spring sports close out the 2024-2025 high school sports season, the Standard-Times will continue accepting nominations for City National Bank Athlete of the Week throughout the high school sports year.
Plenty of action and outstanding performances are left in the high school sports season. Local softball and baseball teams work through playoff schedules, while track and field athletes finish competing in the UIL championship season.
The Standard-Times will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Several standouts were nominated for the most recent City National Bank Athlete of the Week award.
Ainsley Burns, Mason girls golf – She won her third Class 2A girls golf championship with a score of 140.
Aiden Cardwell, Junction track and field – He won gold in the Class 2A boys 300-meter hurdles event with a time of 39.18.
Christoval baseball – The Cougars won their bi-district matchup against Forsan in a best-of-three series.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: Which Concho Valley Class 2A/1A athletes have won gold medals at the UIL State Track Meet?
Kohen Grantom, Coahoma track and field – He won gold in the boys wheelchair 100 and 400 at the state meet.
Reagan County boys 400 relay team – They won the Class 2A boys 400 relay and set a new state meet record with a time of 41.64 seconds.
Danni Ruiz, Menard track and field– She won the Class 1A girls 400-meter run and 800 state championships.
Wall boys track team – They finished with a silver medal in the Class 3A boys track and field meet with 64 points.
Water Valley girls 800 relay team – They won the gold medal in the Class 1A girls 800 relay with a time of 1:46.08.
Nominations for next week's award are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at [email protected] or by messaging the Standard-Times on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will start on Tuesday and close at 11 a.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced afterward.
Athletes who win Athlete of the Week can not win the award twice for the same sport. An athlete can be nominated in a different sport, but can't win the award more than three times in a school year.
