The Atlanta Falcons have used this week to remake their backfield depth chart behind Bijan Robinson. Tyler Goodson is the newest addition, per the team.

Goodson will be competing with Nate Carter and Carlos Washington Jr. for third running back duties in Atlanta, and is the most established player in that group. In 33 games for the Colts over three seasons, Goodson has 264 yards on 54 carries with a touchdown, 19 grabs for 103 yards and another touchdown, and has averaged 27 yards on 11 kick returns. There’s some versatility here that will make him appealing for the Falcons, especially because he’s played significant special teams snaps for Indianapolis the past two seasons; the only drawback there is that he had seven tackles (good!) and six missed tackles (bad!) last year.

Goodson is, however, a perfectly competent third back who is a good enough blocker to credibly play all three downs in an emergency. Ideally, whoever holds the RB3 spot won’t be playing much at all, but the fact that the new regime just signed Goodson means he’s probably got the leg up early on. Go ahead and give him a warm welcome!
