The Atlanta Falcons didn't have a first-round pick in this year's draft thanks to the trade up to get James Pearce Jr. the previous year. So, they had to wait until the middle of the second round to make a selection, which they used on A.J. Terrell's little brother Avieon out of Clemson.

Terrell may turn out to be the one of the NFL's best slot defenders, but that's unlikely to make the kind of impact that a franchise left tackle or quarterback pick would - no matter how good he might be.

In a recent 2027 NFL mock draft from Pro Football Network, Atlanta winds up with the sixth overall pick in the draft, which they use on Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Trevor Goosby.

"Surrendering just three sacks last season, Texas tackle Trevor Goosby has quickly emerged as one of the premier offensive line prospects in this class, currently sitting as the No. 2 tackle on PFSN’s 2027 NFL Draft Big Board. That level of production and upside could make him a serious option for Atlanta if the Falcons look to solidify the future of their offensive line. If Goosby can cut down on the holding penalties, he possesses all the traits teams look for in an elite blindside protector at the next level."

Goosby (6-foot-7, 325 pounds) is coming off a strong 2025 season, having posted solid-to-great grades in 12 of 13 starts, with only his work against Kentucky (56.9) lagging behind. Here's the highlight reel.

Goosby has played left tackle at Texas, which would put him on track to be the long-term successor for Jake Matthews once he retires.

Linemen picks in the first round are almost never popular with fans, but sometimes it's necessary to make a big investment in the trenches like this to make sure your offensive line doesn't fall off over time.

That being said, if Atlanta does wind up picking at No. 6 overall, the the Falcons should probably be looking to take a potential franchise quarterback.
