Nicole Melick scored 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack in Exeter's 38-23 victory over Portsmouth in a Division I girls basketball first-round contest on Monday night.

Emme Kayes added eight points, Lexy Rogers seven and Jessica Melick six for the Blue Hawks. Jessica Melick added 11 rebounds and Rogers chipped in with four steals and four assists. Mya Dineen contributed three assists and a pair of steals.

Exeter advanced to play at Nashua South in a quarterfinal game on Thursday night.

Bedford 64, Nashua North 45: Sarah Muir's game-high 19 points helped push the Bulldogs into a home quarterfinal contest on Thursday night against Salem. Eva Zink (12 points) and Mel McCarthy (10) added hit double figures.

North's Angie King and Alaina Small scored 15 points each to lead their team. King's points came on five 3-pointers.

Windham 61, Timberlane 36: Rileigh Finneran poured in 21 points, leading the Jaguars into a quarterfinal matchup at Londonderry on Thursday night. Madelyn Begley added 10 points, Elizabeth Grasso nine, and Grace Mondello and Colbie Cushman eight each for the Jaguars.

Nashua South 43, Pinkerton 41: Taya Brown and Cara Mahn led the Astros with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Brooke Benz added eight.

In the other first-round games, Concord Christian beat Alvirne, 54-29; Bishop Guertin outscored Trinity, 44-40; Salem defeated Central-West, 39-24; and Londonderry topped Keene, 56-30.
