The Pittsburgh Steelers are under fire from their former CB Steven Nelson, who didn't pull any punches when discussing the current state of the Steel City defense.
On a recent episode of the TR5NT YouTube channel, Nelson tore the Steelers' defensive scheme to shreds before lasering in on defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.
"The defensive scheme is a--," Nelson said. "The DC needs to get the f--- up out of there. Teryl Austin. He was the DB coach when I was there. I didn't think he was that great then, you know what I'm saying? Now he's the DC. It's an opportunistic defense. … They've been running the same sh-- every year with no adjustment."
Despite Pittsburgh investing a massive chunk of the salary cap into the defense, the unit is the fifth-worst in the league in total yards allowed per game.
While Nelson didn't have the smoothest exit from Pittsburgh, he and many Steelers know a terrible defensive scheme when they see one.
