Ex-Red Sox Prospect Off To Jaw-Dropping Start In Triple-A With Dodgers originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It's been a rough week for the Boston Red Sox. They've lost five in a row, they're tied for the worst record in baseball and they just got swept by the Houston Astros.
And if that wasn't bad enough, former Red Sox prospect James Tibbs III is off to a scintillating start in Triple-A for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tibbs was one of the four players Boston acquired from the San Francisco Giants last June in the Rafael Devers trade. He was only in the Red Sox organization for a month and a half, however, playing just 30 games for Double-A Portland before getting traded again to the Dodgers for Dustin May at the trade deadline.
Unfortunately for Boston, the move didn't pan out. May struggled for the Red Sox, going 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 28 1/3 innings before getting hurt. He departed in free agency during the offseason, joining the St. Louis Cardinals.

Meanwhile, Tibbs has been sensational in Los Angeles' farm system. He posted a .900 OPS for their Double-A affiliate last year and is hitting even better at Triple-A, putting the 23-year-old slugger on track to potentially make his Major League debut later this season.
In his first six games with the Oklahoma City Comets, Tibbs already has four home runs, four doubles, a triple, 10 RBI, 11 runs and a ridiculous .500/.552/1.192 batting line.
Had Boston held on to him, he could have been the team's first baseman for years to come. Instead, the Red Sox let a potential star hitter slip away.
