A former Toronto Blue Jays catcher and current Texas Ranger has the fate of his season in the palm of his hands.
Rangers backstop Danny Jansen will decide whether to undergo an internal brace procedure within the next two to three weeks, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Jansen has been on the IL since June with a forearm injury. If he opts to get the surgery, it'll force him out for the remainder of the 2026 season.
“I’m trying to ramp up, so we are trying to push through some pain and see how it responds,” Jansen told Grant.
“That's where I am right now. It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, but that’s to be expected. We’ll see what it can handle. Because I'm sick and tired of waiting around and all that, and the season's already kind of going by," Jansen added. "And I don’t want to miss any time next year.”

Jansen faces a tough decision
If Jansen decided to undergo surgery, there's a better chance he will return in time for the 2027 season than if a pitcher underwent the same procedure.
Naturally, catchers have a lot less stress on their arms than pitchers do.
Jansen, 31, hit just .171/.277/.309 with three home runs and a .586 OPS in 142 trips to the plate before the injury.
He is in the first year of a two-year, $14.5 million contract with the Rangers.
