There is no one like Erling Haaland in modern soccer. The Norwegian superstar presents a unique combination of power, speed, and precision. If he gets even a halfway decent chance at a goal, he's probably going to score.

It's that simple.

We saw this as much during Haaland's two-goal performance to eliminate historical men's World Cup titan Brazil in the Round of 16 on Sunday. As a striker who lives near the goal box, Haaland wasn't around the ball all that much for most of the 90-plus minutes. But he didn't have to be. With a spot in the quarterfinals on the line — the first time Norway has ever advanced this far in the World Cup — Haaland needed just two solid touches near the net to bury Brazil.

Because, quite frankly, that's what he does.

The first was this beautiful header in the 79th minute:

The second was a perfect strike from over 22 yards in the 90th minute to put the match to rest:

After Norway's win, Haaland was asked about his unique goal-scoring prowess, now having scored at least once in 14 straight games for his country. He tried to sound humble about his gifts and, honestly, even here, failed after noting that "it's his life to score."

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with that. Why should Haaland be modest? He's clearly one of the greatest goal scorers of all time. It all comes naturally to him:

Erling Haaland: “My life is to score. I don't really know what I do, this is just the way I am”.

Indeed, with the ball on either of his feet, Haaland knows exactly what to do. Better than almost anyone else in soccer history. And if his goal-scoring success continues, perhaps Norway can really dream about making one of the biggest dark horse runs in men's World Cup history.
