EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The biggest man on the pitch barreled through a distraught defense and toward the helpless goalkeeper.
Norway’s Erlin Haaland, a modern Viking, did his best impression of his ancestors. He invaded – the opponent’s defensive zone and their minds.
All Haaland had to do was run with Martin Ødegaard the length of half the field and take his assisting pass into the box with a slide and left-footed finish to make it 2-0 in favor of Norway over Senegal.
Ten minutes later, Haaland scored again for Norway – his second match in a row with a brace.
In a World Cup that has been buoyed by the performance of its stars, Haaland has stacked multiple top-tier performances. Against Iraq in the opener June 16, Haaland scored two goals for the “Red, White and Blue” (Scandinavian version) in a 4-1 victory.
