Breel Embolo broke down in tears after receiving a second booking for a dive in Switzerland's 3-1 extra-time loss to Argentina in the World Cup - but sympathy was in short supply.

"He is devastated," coach Murat Yakin said. "It hurts us, it hurts him that we were a man down on the pitch like that."

Embolo was sent off in Kansas City five minutes after Switzerland's equalizer by Dan Ndoye.

The referee had initially shown Argentina's Leandro Paredes a yellow card for a foul but after reviewing the video, he withdrew it and Embolo was booked for the second time for an obvious dive on 72 minutes. Team-mates had to console the striker on the pitch.

"With his sending-off, Breel Embolo does the team a huge disservice," Swiss newspaper the Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote.

Argentina then took a grip of the game again and scored twice in extra-time to seal a semi-final meeting with England.
