Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers have landed their first transfer, securing a commitment from former Blemont guard Tyler Lundblade. He announced his commitment Wednesday on social media.
Lundblade is coming off a career year at Belmont, where he was named the MVC Player of the Year after averaging 15.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 32 games. He was one of the best shooters in the country, making 40.6% of his 3-pointers on 8.8 attempts per game. He also shot 93.4% from the free-throw line.
He is originally from Dallas, Texas, and started his career with the SMU Mustangs. He redshirted during his one year with them before transferring to TCU, spending two seasons with the Horned Frogs before transferring to Belmont ahead of the 2024-25 season. He played in 15 games for the Horned Frogs over two seasons, scoring eight points.
Lundblade quickly broke out once he joined Belmont, averaging 12.4 points and shooting 48.1% from three-point range. He will have one season of eligibility for Tennessee, which is looking to reload after losing to the Michigan Wolverines in the Elite Eight.
He is ranked as the No. 17 overall player and No. 3 shooting guard in the transfer portal by 247Sports. He is expected to be a key point of Tennessee's offense next season, which will have to replace the production of guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and likely Nate Ament, who is expected to enter the NBA draft.
