LSU women's basketball missed on its top transfer portal target as former Wisconsin forward Serah Williams committed to UConn. Williams announced the news with a post on social media.
The race for Williams was believed to be a two-horse battle down the stretch, with LSU and UConn going back and forth. The Tigers made a strong pitch, hosting Williams on a visit, but Williams ultimately decided to join the defending national champions.
Williams was a top priority for LSU as Tigers' head coach Kim Mulkey aimed to rebuild the frontcourt. LSU lost All-American Aneesah Morrow to the WNBA while Sa'Myah Smith, Jersey Wolfenbarger, and Aalyah Del Rosario all hit the transfer portal.
LSU landed transfer forwards Kate Koval and Amiya Joyner, but Williams was one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal. LSU is strong at guard with Flau'Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams returning, along with the addition of MiLaysia Fulwiley, but the forward position will be a question mark.
As a junior, Williams averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She was one of the most productive players in the country while playing the grueling schedule of the Big Ten.
Transfer season isn't over and LSU could turn its attention elsewhere with Williams out of the picture.
