New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf is high on the roster that his front office has constructed so far this offseason.
At a press conference on Monday prior to the 2026 NFL Draft, Wolf asserted that the Patriots have gotten better this offseason after the wave of moves that the team executed in the open market.
"Yeah I think so,” Wolf said. “With some of the free agent moves that we’ve done. Like primarily that, because we haven’t done a lot of other things. But, yeah I think so. And then we’ll continue to supplement it.”
The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs in free agency to be their new No. 1 receiver. He serves as the replacement for Stefon Diggs after the Patriots decided to release their lone 1,000-yard receiver at the start of the new league year. Despite his immense talent, Doubs went for 724 yards last season, less than Patriots tight end Hunter Henry, who finished second for New England in receiving yards in 2025 with 768 yards.
New England lost edge rusher K'Lavon Chaisson, as well as safety Jaylinn Hawkins, in the open market. Defensive end Dre’Mont Jones and safety Kevin Byard, two marquee free agent signings for New England this year, approximate the value that the Patriots lost following the departures of two pivotal pieces that helped the team advance to the Super Bowl at the end of last season.
New England swung on a chance to sign guard Alijah Vera-Tucker in free agency. Vera-Tucker's health will be a large determinant in assessing whether or not the Patriots’ move for the heralded offensive lineman was a home run or not. The Patriots also released backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs earlier in the spring, opening the door for the dual-threat quarterback, Tommy DeVito, to get promoted to the backup role in New England for next season.
The Patriots' major moves this offseason have offset significant departures in the open market. Nevertheless, Wolf holds the conviction that New England fields a strong roster currently.
