HILLSDALE COUNTY — Division 4 all-state awards have been announced for Michigan boys basketball for the 2025-26 season. Amongst the list of honorees across two different lists, three student-athletes in Hillsdale County (ISD) earned all-state honors at various tiers for their performances this winter sports season.

Hillsdale Academy eighth grader Jack Huffman led the honorees — receiving first-team all-state honors (D4) from the Michigan Sports Writers voting panel.

The Michigan Sports Writers weren’t the only outlet to recognize his achievements. The Detroit Free Press named him to its third team all-state tier for Division 4 boys basketball.

Huffman broke out with one of the more unique and rare seasons found in recent Michigan prep hoops — now even more rare with a first-team all-state honor as an eighth grader.

Huffman helped lead Hillsdale Academy to a SCAA East title with a 14-0 mark. The Colts finished the regular season with a 22-3 overall record, a program high since their state semifinal appearance. Their team trophies also included a District 118 championship with wins over Reading (65-30) and Pittsford (72-41 in the title game). They fell to the eventual D4 state champions from Concord in the Region 30 semifinals (49-40 final).

His season earned him SCAA Dream Team honors, potentially the first for an eighth grader. He also earned the MVP SCAA East first team all-league honor.

Some of his notable achievements include breaking the school record for rebounds in a game against Mendon. He had 35 points, 30 rebounds, five blocks and five assists in that game. At the Pat Patterson semifinal against Hillsdale, he had 29 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four blocks — just the seventh start of his career. He had 24 points, 20 rebounds and five assists against St. Phillip. In rivalry games, he had 20 points and 14 rebounds against Waldron and 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists against Pittsford.

Huffman averaged a double-double of 16.3 points a game, 10.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.7 blocks. He shot 70.2-percent from 2-point and 35-percent from 3-point range.

The rare situation will put him in an unprecedented position as he could earn a potential five all-state honors once his career is over in 2030.

Williams receives honorable mention honors

Another athlete — on the opposite end of his career — was a recipient of all-state honors.

Waldron senior captain Seth Williams earned honorable mention all-state from the Michigan Sports Writers Panel for Division 4. Williams earns his second all-state honor for his career, amongst a list of other impressive accolades earned over his three years of varsity boys basketball for the Spartans.

Williams was a three-year leader for the Waldron boys basketball team, who came back from a torn ACL his freshman season to lead one of the best runs for a senior class in recent Spartan history. Their follow-up season to last year’s district title saw the Spartans finish 2025-26 with a 17-6 overall record — 12-2 in the SCAA East (both losses to Hillsdale Academy). Williams and his fellow seniors earned a 35-13 overall record in the last two seasons combined.

His senior season saw him nearly reach double-double figures — 16.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and two assists per game. He shot 66.1-percent from 2-point range — 37-percent from 3-point range. He shot 77.4 percent from the free-throw-line. He reached 1,000 career points, becoming the first 1,000-point scorer in program history since the early 2000s. He also finished his career with 642 rebounds and 102 blocks — three seasons.

For his efforts, Williams earned SCAA Dream Team honors and first-team all-league.

Will Carleton Academy junior Harrison Sands earned honorable mention all-state for his efforts this winter.

Harrison Sands had a record-breaking junior season for the Will Carleton Academy Cougars. Sands delivered one of the most dominating seasons across Hillsdale County (ISD) basketball this winter, earning school records for Will Carleton Academy his junior year, including the school record for rebounds in a season (291).

His 291 total rebounds were aided by a 26-rebound performance against Kalamazoo Path of Life in an 83-50 win, which tied a school record for most rebounds in a single game (boys prep hoops). The following night, he had 32 points and 15 rebounds. He had three double-double nights in one week, with one game where he had 28 points and 23 rebounds. He had another with 28 points and 19 rebounds. Sands played 19 of the team’s 23 games. In games where Sands played, the team had a 10-9 overall record.

His season stats were recorded and compared to other athletes reported in Max Preps (number of games vary). For the 2025-26 season, he ranked eighth in the state with eight double-doubles. He ranked second in rebounds per game (15.3) in Michigan. His 1.9 blocks was 22nd amongst recorded athletes in the state. His 20.6 points per game was 23rd in Michigan. For his efforts, he earned Crossroads Athletic Conference first team all-league.
