Hillsdale area to send more than 40 athletes, relay teams to D4 finals

HILLSDALE — Ahead of the MITCA D4 team state championship at Hayden Park, the Hillsdale Academy Colts hosted the Region 35, Division 4 finals at its home track facilities. The Colts capped off the weekend event with a Region 35 championship for the boys and girls teams.

The teams, which rank first in MITCA D4 rankings, each won the title with room to spare in the final points tally. The boys team defeated runner-up Reading 218.5-76. The girls team defeated Petersburg Summerfield 190-90. Pittsford girls track took fifth overall in scoring. Camden-Frontier's teams took seventh in boys and eighth in girls.

In addition to the team titles, multiple Hillsdale County athletes earned individual regional titles and solidified their spots at the Division 4 state finals at Hudsonville.

Individual girls track and field champions, qualifiers​


100 Meters

Camden-Frontier senior Zailey Conroy was a three-time individual state qualifier for the RedHawks. Her first qualifying time came in the 100-meter dash prelims with a personal best 12.94. Her finals time was 13.20 to take fifth. Reading junior Caylee Whinnie ran a personal best 13.33 seconds to take sixth and qualify for state.

200 Meters

Conroy earned a second state qualifying time of 26.71 in the 200 prelims and took third overall in the finals (27.14). Pittsford sophomore Brielle Clark qualified in prelims with a time of 27.32 and took fourth (27.38) in the finals race.

400 Meters

Conroy took second in the 400-meter finals with a personal best time of 1:01.222 and qualified for state. Academy eighth grader Kate Perry took third with a personal best 1:04.10 and qualified for the state finals.

800 Meters

The 800-meter finals saw three Academy athletes qualify for the D4 finals. Senior Elizabeth Caspar took runner-up (PB 2:29.04). Allie Miller took third overall (2:30.37). Eliza Roberts took fourth (2:30.40).

1,600 Meters

Only one athlete qualified for the state finals in the 1,600, and it was regional champion Evelyn Meyer. The Academy junior took first with a time of 5:35.53.

3,200 Meters

Meyer won the 3,200 regional title (12:15.68) and was the only County athlete to qualify for the finals this year.

110 Hurdles

Academy junior Lucy Cote won two regional hurdles titles. She first set a new personal best time in the 100 (15.18) to take first. Teammate Zoe Plemmons also qualified for state (17.46) taking third. Teammate Amelia Heath earn a state qualifying time of 16.45 in prelims. She took ninth in the finals.

300 Hurdles

Cote, already an early state qualifier, added her second hurdles region title in the 300-meter race with a time of 48.10 seconds. Teammate Amelia Heath took fourth (50.97) with a state qualifying time.

4x100 Relay

The Pittsford 4x100 relay team of Tania Williams, Ellie Bump, Jaycee Kerspilo and Brielle Clark took third overall and qualified for the D4 finals with a time of 53.72 seconds. Reading's team of Caylee Whinnie, Makenzie Badgley, Lindzey Penza and London Trott took fourth with a state-qualifying time of 53.80.

4x200 Relay

The Hillsdale Academy 4x200 team of Anna BIssot, Kate Perry, Jane Whalen and Lucy Cote won the regional title with a time of 1:50.52. Pittsford's 4x100 team also took runner-up in the 4x200 and qualified for the state finals (1:52.87).

4x400 Relay

Cote anchored the Colts' 4x400 team of Allie Miller, Jane Whalen and Georgia Whalen to a regional title with a time of 4:16.63. The team was an early state qualifier.

4x800 Relay

The Colts already had one 4x800 team qualify for the finals. They added another with the team of Maren Gehrke, Ava Buckland, Kathryn Meyer and Audrey Nehlsen, who took second overall with a time of 10:56.21.

Discus

Pittsford senior Laura LeMar became the lone Hillsdale County girls thrower to qualify for the state finals. LeMar threw 107-feet, 3 inches for a new personal best and runner-up region honors.

High Jump

Hillsdale Academy freshman Amelia Heath took first in high jump with a title-winning height of 4-feet, 11 inches.

Pole Vault

The most successful event for Hillsdale County girls track athletes was the pole vault finals. Hillsdale Academy senior Eliana Stemme won the regional title and qualified for state with a height of 9-feet, 6 inches. Pittsford freshman Alivia Hoover (9-0) qualified for state and took fourth. Academy senior Anne Gray took fifth (9-0) and qualified. Pittsford's Brielle Clark qualified and took sixth (8-6). Lorelei Stemme took ninth and qualified with 8-0. Tania Williams took 10th and qualified (8-0).

Long Jump

Academy freshman Juliet King took third in long jump with a personal best distance of 15-feet, 6 inches, earning state qualification.

Individual boys track and field champions, qualifiers​


100 Meters

Brayden Wright smashed his personal best time to earn the Reading Rangers the 100-meter dash title with a time of 10.93 seconds. Joining him qualifying for state is Litchfield sophomore Logan Perkins, taking fifth with a 11.52. His personal best 11.44 in the prelims qualified him for state as well.

200 Meters

Wright won a second individual title with a time of 22.65, a personal best, and qualified for the state finals. Brendon Nave qualified for state in prelims with a 23.07 PB time.

400 Meters

Parker Riddle added an individual regional title to the Rangers' total with a personal best 53.46 in the 400-meter sprint. He was the lone state qualifier this year for the 400.

800 Meters

Hillsdale Academy senior Luke Molenkamp ran a 2:00.57 in the 800 to win the regional title and qualify for state. He joins fellow senior Grayson Rorick as the two County qualifiers.

1,600 Meters

Speaking of Rorick, the senior chased down the 1,600-meter run championship with a time of 4:27.37. He beat teammate Stephen Holm, who ran a personal best 4:43.45 to take second and qualify for state.

3,200 Meters

Rorick won the 3,200 title with a time of 10:00.34. He was an earlier qualifier for this event. His younger brother Henry Rorick ran down runner-up with a 10:18.88, with the finish earning him a qualifying spot.

110 Hurdles

Dawson Scharer started his regional sweep with a 15.07 run to take the 110 hurdles crown. He is already a state qualifier in both hurdles events.

300 Hurdles

Scharer returned to sweep the hurdles with his second 2026 regional title, earning a final time of 40.58 in the 300 hurdles.

4x100 Relay

The team of Aidan Clark, Gaven Mckibbin, Will Elder and Brayden Wright earned a regional title for Reading with a time of 44.75. It is currently the second fastest time in all Division 4 4x100 results so far this season. The Pittsford team of Mondale Knepfler, Gavin Leggett, Jacob Drawe and Brendon Nave took third with a time of 45.89, with the time earning them a spot in the state finals.

4x200 Relay

In one of the most successful events for Hillsdale County teams this regional, the 4x200 relay qualified four different teams for the state finals.

The Hillsdale Academy team of Zane Socha, Hudson Mackie, Jordan Perry and Dawson Scharer took the regional title (1:34.91). The runner-up team from Pittsford was the same team that qualified for the 4x100, taking second with a time of 1:35.51. Camden-Frontier took third and qualified on time (1:35.98) with the team of Matthew Draheim, Skylar Walston, Dominic Kurtz and Brandon Menchaca earning a state finals spot. The Reading team of Aidan Clark, Will Elder, Gaven Mckibbin and Brayden Wright qualified with a time of 1:38.81. The same team qualified earlier this May at the Chuck King Invitational.

4x400 Relay

The Hillsdale Academy team of Jordan Perry, Luke Molenkamp, Timothy Gaebler and Dawson Scharer won a regional title with a time of 3:34.71. The Reading team of Wiler Williams, Will Elder, Gaven Mckibbin and Parker Riddle took runner-up honors with a 3:35.72, earning a state qualifying bid.

4x800 Relay

The Hillsdale Academy 4x800 team of Robert Whalen, Henry Lindley, Ryan Miller and Luke Molenkamp took first overall and a region title with a time of 8:46.68. The Reading team of Alec Cooper, Parker Riddle, Gaven Mckibbin and Connor Trott all qualified for the state finals with a runner-up time of 8:50.59.

Shot Put

Hillsdale Academy junior Josh King qualified in the shot put event with a personal best throw of 43-feet, 2 1/2 inches to take fourth. No County throwers qualified in discus.

High Jump

Academy eighth grader Jack Huffman won a region title with a new personal best high jump of 6-1 (won in attempts). Camden-Frontier junior Dominic Kurtz qualified for state, taking runner-up with a jump of 6-1. Academy senior Zane Socha took third overall and qualified with a jump of 5-11.

Pole Vault

Camden-Frontier junior Brandon Menchaca tied for runner-up honors with Hillsdale Academy sophomore Kyle Molenkamp. Both athletes qualified for state with a height of 11-feet, 6 inches. Academy senior Connor Hill took fourth and qualified for state (11-0). Colts junior Hudson Mackie took fifth (11-0) and qualified for state.

Long Jump

Brendon Nave took first overall and won a regional title for Pittsford with a distance of 20-feet, 2 inches. Teammate Jacob Drawe took second place to qualify for state (19-11 3/4).
