Easton Cowan plays hero for Toronto Marlies in AHL playoffs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were done playing hockey a while ago.
Their phenom Easton Cowan is still on the ice, though, taking part in the AHL playoffs for the Toronto Marlies.
It's a good thing Cowan is there, too, because he played hero on Sunday.
In a do-or-die Game 5 against the Cleveland Monsters, Cowan scored the game-winner with less than 15 seconds to play.
It sends the Marlies to the AHL's Eastern Conference Final.

MORE: Sabres' story of this season is about all the chapters along the way
This is an awesome moment for Cowan, who showed some flashes of his NHL potential this season but is now getting a chance to develop further in games that matter.
It might be the AHL, but playoff hockey is still as intense as it gets, and Cowan is holding his own.
The Maple Leafs have a lot to figure out this offseason, but they surely have no doubt that Cowan is a part of their future.
Could they still decide to trade him this offseason? Sure, everything seems to be on the table.
But it's moments like these that show Cowan belongs. He has a sense for the moment, and the Leafs will need that from him for years to come.
