East Lansing graduate Aaliyah Nye heard her name called in the WNBA draft on April 14.
The former Trojan standout was taken by the Las Vegas Aces with the No. 13 overall pick and the first of the second round of the draft.
Nye was drafted after a standout college career she finished at Alabama. Nye had 1,739 career points and set the Alabama record for 3-pointers in a season this winter with 109. She ranked fourth nationally in made 3s and averaged 15.2 points while starting all 33 games for the Crimson Tide.
Nye is a 2020 graduate of East Lansing and was the state’s Miss Basketball runner-up and Division 1 player of the year as a senior while earning LSJ player of the year honors.
MSU's Julia Ayrault earns opportunity
Michigan State's Julia Ayrault accepted a training camp invite with the Phoenix Mercury after not being selected in the WNBA draft.
Ayrault surpassed 1,000 career points and was a second team All-Big Ten selection this winter after averaging 14.4 points. She ranked seventh in the Big Ten with an average of 1.5 blocks per game.
