Once upon a time, in the 2021 NFL Draft, to be exact, the Philadelphia Eagles used fifth-round draft capital to select Kenneth Gainwell. He was mentioned as a possible steal, and all things considered, the decision worked out pretty well for the Birds. He's moved on now, but with the emergence of Memphis Tigers tackle Travis Burke, one has to ask how good Gainwell would have been had this young man been blocking for him.

Burke started 11 games for the Tigers in 2025 at right tackle. He also has experience starting on the left side. He has informed the media present in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine that he has met with the Philadelphia Eagles.

#Memphis OT Travis Burke says he met informally with the #Eagles and says he talked with new OL coach Chris Kuper during the meeting.

He’s 6-9 and plays through the whistle, drives defenders through the ground, and his arm length/size makes it difficult to get past in pass pro. pic.twitter.com/Cs4ybT7A8o

He isn't quite who we'd consider to be a sufficient Lane Johnson succession plan, but at this stage of their careers, who is?

That's why teams employ position coaches. This would give new Eagles O-line coach Chris Kuper some insurance, though, and a possible legitimate replacement for current backup Fred Johnson if he were to move on during the free agency frenzy.
