Joplin wrestlers got an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of their peers during the annual all-school meet against the Cassville Wildcats on Tuesday at Kaminsky Gymnasium. Teachers were given the option of letting classes attend the event, resulting in hundreds of students cheering on both Eagle squads.

Girls

The Joplin girls (0-4) shouldered the burden of too many forfeits due to open weight classes and fell 30-42 to the Wildcats, but two Eagle girls logged pins at the dual.

In a dominant performance, sophomore Anie Spiering logged an early takedown before pinning Cassville’s Hopelyne Thompson at the 51-second mark of the first period in their 120-pound match.

Eagle junior Blayke Holmes wasted little time with a strong takedown and pin of Cassville’s Molly Pickett just 38 seconds into their 140-pound bout.

In the 100-pound match, Joplin’s Angelica Sturgis, trailing 10-5, was pinned in the second period by Cassville’s Isabella Bauman.

Aliyah Lasiter also fell victim to a first-period pin at the hands of Cassville’s Gracey Farsungchin in their 125-pound match.

The Eagle girls got forfeit points at 105, 110 and 235 pounds, while Cassville logged points with opens at 130, 140, 145, 155 and 170 pounds.

Boys

On the boys side, Joplin (6-11) fell 18-61 to the Wildcats. All of Joplin’s points came via forfeits. The Eagles benefited from open weights at 106, 120 and 285 pounds. Cassville claimed forfeit points at 175 and 190 pounds.

In the 113-pound match, Cassville’s Boni Lopez jumped out to a 10-0 lead over Joplin’s Cory Ivey and eventually won by technical fall with a 21-4 score.

Joplin’s Laiken Perry stayed within arm's reach of Cassville’s Rylen Holman at 6-3 but fell by pin in the second period of the 126-pound match.

In the 132-pound bout, Eagle senior Andrew Burke lost to Cassville’s Kole Fry in a 23-3 technical fall in the third period.

Joplin’s Alex Dally fell to Wildcat Kellen Weldy by a 16-0 technical fall late in the third period of their 138-pound match.

Cassville’s Logan Parsons jumped out to a 6-0 lead before pinning Joplin’s Kemper Loyd in the second period of their 144-pound bout.

In the 150-pound contest, Cassville’s Braydyn Sizemore logged a pin of Joplin’s Arvin Komet with 23 seconds left in the first period.

Cassville’s Tyler Hodge also earned a first-period pin of Joplin’s Lacota Nichols after building a 7-0 lead in their 157-pound matchup.

At 165 pounds, Joplin’s Austin Puckett fell victim to a pin by Cassville’s Mason Rillstone late in the second period.

Joplin’s Gryphon Price went the distance but dropped a 2-16 major decision to Cassville’s Riley Jones in their 215-pound bout.
