Detroit — Captain Dylan Larkin's return to the Red Wings appears imminent.

Larkin, who suffered an apparent leg injury March 6 against Florida, practiced full tilt Monday and is trending toward a return to the lineup Tuesday against Ottawa (7 p.m./FDSN/97.1).

Coach Todd McLellan said Larkin will be a "game-time decision, I'm sure", talking after Monday's practice.

Larkin has been on the ice skating since Thursday's morning skate, and his no-contact jersey was replaced Monday with a regular practice jersey.

"I'm confident that he is improving," McLellan said. "He's confident that he is improving. He had a good practice (Monday), but I can't tell you if he'll be in (the lineup) or not. I don't know that answer right now."

Larkin was unavailable to media Monday.

Larkin has missed the last seven games, in which the Wings have gone 3-3-1. The loss of Larkin, Andrew Copp for three games, and Michael Rasmussen (lower-body) severely weakened the Wings' depth at center.

Getting Larkin's offense (28 goals, 55 points) back would be a big plus for the Wings.

"Ever since he's been down, it's been a big hole in the lineup," forward Patrick Kane said. "As our leader and captain too. A lot of us wanted to play for him in some way or another, and put us in a good enough spot so when he's coming back, we're still in the thick of things.

"I'm not sure what his status is going forward but it's always great to see him out there."

Forward David Perron feels Larkin's leadership will be a significant addition for the Wings.

"He's the best player on the team, and our leader, and all the experiences he's had over the last couple of years, there's been a lot of growth in many departments and I'm very proud of him," Perron said. "I'm excited to see him play."
