Donovan Collins was a standout athlete at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens with dreams of a military career after school. But the unexpected happened to the young man.

Collins suffered a stroke that paralyzed his right side, caused blindness in one eye, and left him dealing with seizures and other health challenges.

But Donavan, a senior, has stayed in school and continues to excel as a student, according to the Clarke County School District.

Recently, Donovan was surprised by a group of University of Georgia students, who are members of Dream On 3, a national nonprofit that provides sports-themed “dreams come true for children and young adults living with a life-altering condition.

The Dream On team gave Donovan a customized VIP Georgia Football package. This includes a meeting with UGA football Coach Kirby Smart and the football squad, and he was allowed to watch the game against Austin Peay from the sidelines.

Donavan was surprised by the group during an event on the Cedar Shoals campus, where he was joined by his family, classmates, the high school’s band and cheerleaders, along with teachers and staff who helped him overcome his obstacles he might face at school.
