Spain vs Argentina will be the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday evening as the best tournament on earth comes to an end for another four years.
Of the 48 final teams, just two remain as the champions of Europe, Spain, face defending world champions Argentina.
Soccer fans across the globe are divided on who will be crowned champions ahead of kick-off and naturally, US President Donald Trump was asked for his prediction.
Donald Trump says it is ‘hard to bet against’ Lionel Messi
Jenny Taft of Fox Sports caught up with Mr Trump hours before kick-off as the president prepared to take his seat at the biggest sporting occasion on the planet.
He was asked: “I’ve got to ask, Argentina-Spain, give us your prediction.”
He said: “Well, I knew you were going to ask, so I thought about it very hard. I hate to get involved even though politically it doesn’t matter too much.
“The head of Argentina is a friend of mine who has done a terrific job, but I would say it’s hard to bet against Messi. I watched that pass (vs England) I think you’d call it a pass. It was exactly perfect.
“It takes some talent to hit the ball off the head coming at that speed, but that was perfect if you had a strike zone, that would be perfect. Just before that, the way he got away from the defender, he was defended very well; all of a sudden, he’s standing by himself, so it’s hard to bet against him.
“I won’t pick sides but I think it’s very hard to bet against Messi; he’s great.”
