After 103 matches, we have reached the 2026 World Cup final.

Lionel Messi and Argentina are hoping to defend their World Cup title while Lamine Yamal is seeking to get Spain its first men's World Cup since 2010.

The Argentinian superstar broke several records this summer, including becoming the all-time World Cup goal scorer. Messi has 21 goals across six tournaments. The number of World Cup rosters he has been on is also a record, tied with Cristiano Ronaldo and Guillermo Ochoa.

Yamal turned 19 years old during the tournament and has already made history at FC Barcelona – Messi's old stomping grounds. He made his World Cup debut in Spain's group play draw against Cape Verde. He then powered La Roja with his first World Cup goal in a win over Saudi Arabia.

A charity photo from 2007 of a young Messi giving a baby Yamal a bath has gone viral as a wink of destiny.

Where is the Spain vs. Argentina World Cup final?

The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina will be at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Due to FIFA regulations, it is called New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup.

Officials were reportedly monitoring the air quality in the area because smoke from wildfires in Canada created unsafe conditions earlier in the week. The air quality was expected to improve enough during the weekend to play the final match.

The venue, which opened in 2010, is the home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. MetLife Stadium has been criticized in the league because several players, including star wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Malik Nabers, have suffered serious injuries while playing on its artificial turf.

For the World Cup, the playing surface has been replaced by natural grass, per FIFA's mandates.

Other significant soccer moments have previously happened at MetLife Stadium. Argentina lost the Copa América Centenario final in 2016 to Chile in a penalty shootout and Lionel Messi said he was retiring from international play. Neymar made his debut and scored his first goal for Brazil in a 2010 friendly against the United States
