The Pittsburgh Pirateslost again on Tuesday, suffering their fourth straight defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals.
It wasn't all bad, however, as the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, Jhostynxon Garcia, made his Pirates debut.
Garcia, who appeared in five games for the Boston Red Sox last year, held his own at the plate, going 1-4 with a single and a strikeout.
After the game, Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly shared his thoughts on Garcia's season debut and his first time facing Major League pitching since last August.
"I think maybe he wasn't on time completely, being the first game up in the big leagues since last year," Kelly told reporters. "He can hit, just get him better on time."
That may explain why Kelly lifted the 23-year-old outfielder for pinch-hitter Spencer Horwitz in the top of the ninth, even though Garcia had just singled in his previous at-bat. The move paid off, however, as Horwitz ripped a game-winning single.
With Ryan O'Hearn sidelined by a quad strain, "The Password" should get plenty of chances to prove himself and get his timing down over the next few weeks.
