The Arizona Cardinals are making progress in their search for a new head coach to replace Jonathan Gannon. After having a second interview with Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile earlier this week, they will have another second interview with another candidate — Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, Weaver will meet with the Cardinals on Sunday.
Weaver is in the mix for several jobs. He is a finalist for the vacancy for the Pittsburgh Steelers and has an interview scheduled with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. He also had two interviews with the Baltimore Ravens before they hired Jesse Minter.
Weaver has been the DC for the Dolphins for two seasons. In 2024, his unit was fourth in yards allowed and 10th in points allowed. Last season wasn't as good, ranking 22nd and 24th.
He has been coaching in the NFL since 2012. He was an assistant defensive line coach for the New York Jets in 2012 and then a defensive line coach from 2013-2019 for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in Houston in 2020.
From 2021-2023, he was with the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive line coach, adding defensive run game coordinator to his title in 2021 and associate head coach in 2022-2023.
