According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Arizona Cardinals will bring in former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver in for a second interview.
Weaver was a finalist for the Steelers head coaching vacancy and the Giants' defensive coordinator position, but the Steelers have chosen to hire Mike McCarthy. Weaver was also in the running for the Ravens job, but is no longer in the running after the Ravens hired Jesse Minter. Weaver spent four years as a player for the Ravens, but that wasn't a factor when it came to interviewing with the AFC North teams.
The Buffalo Bills are also in play for Weaver, but it appears the Cardinals will be making a stronger push.
Currently, four NFL teams remain without a head coach. The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, and the Las Vegas Raiders are still conducting finalist interviews.
Weaver is a hard-nosed, old-school coach who expects his defense to play with violence (within the rules of the game, of course).
“I may sit up here, (and) I’m a nice guy. I smile. I do all those things, but all of our problems that we need to solve can be solved through violence." Weaver said about his Dolphins defense earlier this year.
