The Miami Dolphins re-signed rookie quarterback Brett Gabbert on Friday after a roster spot opened up due to Kader Kohou's injury.
Kohou suffered a season-ending knee injury in a training camp practice and landed on the Dolphins' injured reserve Friday morning. Gabbert filled the spot on the roster less than two weeks after he was cut by Miami in July.
Gabbert, the younger brother of former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert, first signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent earlier this year following a tryout at Miami's rookie minicamp in May. The former Miami RedHawks passer was a three-time All-MAC selection.
The Dolphins now have four quarterbacks on the roster with Gabbert joining Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson, and Quinn Ewers. While the undrafted rookie is a distant fourth in the race for roster spots, he'll likely have an opportunity in preseason to show he's worth a practice squad spot with the Dolphins or elsewhere in the NFL.
