Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Tommy Edman has missed the 2026 season up to this point, but he’s ready to make his return to the majors this week.
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Edman will start his first big league game of the season on Wednesday, as reported by Dodgers Nation’s Noel Sanchez.
“The bird has landed, he’s somewhere around,” Roberts said.

With Edman’s return to action on Wednesday, he’ll have missed the Dodgers’ first 74 games of the season, just under half of the 162 game total.
Where has Tommy Edman been?
Edman, 31, has missed the entirety of the 2026 season up to this point while recovering from offseason ankle surgery.
Edman was twice sidelined by his injured right ankle last season, and he ended the year playing only second base as he nursed the injury.

Now that his ankle is healthy, though, Edman will be able to play second base and fill in for others in both the infield and outfield as needed, reported Fabian Ardaya and Katie Woo of The Athletic.
He finished his rehab assignment with the Oklahoma City Comets this past weekend.
What position will Tommy Edman play?
Presumably, Edman will play second base on Wednesday, though Roberts said it’s likely Edman will be moved around the field a bit.
“I’d say so. It’s hard because I don’t know when Teo [Hernandez] is going to come back,” he said. “I like giving Max [Muncy] an off day here and there. With 2B, we got Miggy [Rojas] and [Alex] Freeland.”

Roberts added that Edman won’t be full-time immediately upon his return.
As reported by Woo, “expect Edman to start 3-4 games a week and to see time at 2B, 3B, LF.”
