Justin Wrobleski did not sugarcoat a rough outing after the Dodgers fell to the Cubs 10-5 on Monday. The left-hander allowed four home runs and seven earned runs across 4.1 innings, marking his second consecutive shaky start after also serving up a career-high number of homers in his previous outing.
Speaking with reporters afterward, Wrobleski kept his explanation simple.
“Sometimes teams are going to have good swings off you, and today that happened,” Wrobleski said. “But I think there’s no excuse. I think I need to be better than I have these past two, and it’s frustrating.”

Wrobleski broke down the specific pitches that hurt him most, noting a clear difference in quality between the two rough starts.
“I think last week some of them were better pitches than this week. The one to Kelly is not a great pitch,” Wrobleski said. “But overall I just didn’t throw the ball well enough today, and I’ve been pretty frustrated these past two.”
Manager Dave Roberts raised the possibility that Chicago’s hitters were picking up on something in Wrobleski’s delivery, a theory the pitcher did not rule out.
“It’s possible, it’s something we’re going to go look at. I changed the game plan pretty significantly today and felt like they were still on some stuff,” Wrobleski said. “Again, it’s baseball. They get paid a lot of money to play this game too, so they’re good players. Sometimes, you’re gonna get got. It’s a hard league to pitch in.”
The rough patch stands out given how effective Wrobleski had been for most of the season. He entered his last two outings with an ERA around 2.60 after emerging as a surprise contributor to the Dodgers’ rotation, providing length and stability during a stretch when the team’s pitching depth was stretched thin.
Even with the recent stumbles, he carries an 11-3 record and a first career All-Star selection into his next start.
Wrobleski made clear he is not looking for excuses, only a return to form, staying even-keeled through unusual outings all season long.
“I just need to continue working and getting better,” Wrobleski said. “The chips will fall where they’re going to.”
