During this trip to Philadelphia, Wrobleski will have more than just an opportunity to soak up the benefits of his hard work.
He’ll also get to further investigate the source of his new nickname: the Shark.
Justin Wrobleski’s cold-blooded efficiency praised by an all-time great
Speaking with David Vassegh on “Dodger Talk,” Wrobleski was asked about potentially meeting Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, who took to social media last month to dub Wrobleski with a new moniker after a strong outing.
“I was impressed with Justin Wrobleski. He was like a shark out there! After tonight he’s now ‘the Shark,'” Martinez wrote.
Wrobleski joked with Vassegh that he needs some more information from the legendary pitcher.
“Yeah, I’m gonna have to talk to him about it, see where where it spawned for him. But it’s super cool. Yeah, I’m excited,” he said.
Wrobleski added that he noticed Dodger Stadium organist Dieter Ruehle playing the infamous song from “Jaws” after each of his strikeouts.
“I thought that was cool. He’s on it up there, he’s on it up there. He’s the best,” Wrobleski said. “I love kind of hearing what he’s got going on. He’s always on, he’s always on point, he always knows what’s happening on and off the field, and yeah, he does a really good job. So that was cool.”
How did Justin Wrobleski make the All-Star team?
After an up-and-down 2025, Wrobleski has turned into a key part of the Dodgers’ starting rotation this year.
He has a 10-2 record in 15 starts with an ERA of 2.69 and WHIP of 1.017, as well as a bWAR of 2.6.
His big-name teammates have noticed, too, with Freddie Freeman shouting out Wrobleski in an interview before the All-Star Game.
“He came into this year, and he hasn’t looked back. Every six days, we have a really good chance to win with him on the mound,” Freeman said. “He’s really starting to figure it out. His strikeout totals have gone up in the last four or five starts, and I feel really confident when he’s on the mound now.”
