Dodgers have a very simple reason to trade for Tarik Skubal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers already have a team capable of winning the World Series for a third consecutive season.
But that doesn't mean they shouldn't trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, too.
The Dodgers have gotten to this point by being ruthless. They're never satisfied. They never settle.
When they've got a chance to get better, they take it.
And heading toward this season's trade deadline, there almost certainly won't be a better opportunity to improve than to acquire Skubal, who has won the AL Cy Young each of the past two years.
Skubal is still on a rehab assignment as he works his way back from injury for the Tigers, and Detroit won't rush this -- if they get back in contention, maybe they reconsider trade plans.
But with Skubal in a contract year, the Tigers would probably be wise to get assets in return for him.

Enter the Dodgers -- a great farm system, and plenty of reason to go after Skubal.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle explained it simply in a new article on Wednesday:
"Sure, Tarik Skubal, to cite one keen example, might not be necessary to the Dodgers' three-peat hopes. But if they have Skubal and no one else does, their probabilities only grow stronger."
So it's really essentially asking the question, "Why not?"
With the Dodgers, there's usually not a reason to pass up the big swing.
