The Los Angeles Dodgers are notorious for landing superstars through blockbuster deals in free agency and in the trade market. Over the offseason, the Dodgers acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Edwin Díaz.
There is still some time to go before MLB’s trade deadline on Aug. 3. But the Dodgers have already been named the frontrunner to secure back-to-back defending American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal.

The Detroit Tigers starting pitcher has been a frequent name in trade rumors this season. MLB insider Jeff Passan reported nine different teams that could target Skubal but ultimately named the Dodgers as the top contender to acquire the southpaw.
Passan suggested the Dodgers trade right-hander Emmett Sheehan, outfield prospect Zyhir Hope and shortstop propesct Aidan West. This package would give the Tigers an MLB starter, an outfielder that will likely be ready for MLB next season and a depth piece for their farm system.
Another option to add to that trade package is starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski. He is having a breakout season in the Dodgers’ starting rotation and would provide a left-handed arm to the Tigers’ rotation.

MLB analyst Kiley McDaniel said Wrobleski would be the better MLB starter to include in the trade instead of Sheehan.
“I prefer Wrobleski of that pitcher group because he’s left-handed and comes with two more years of control than Sheehan, so I might negotiate a bit to get the right mix of players here. Buzz over the past year or so is that Sheehan and Wrobleski were the two arms teams wanted from the Dodgers at the previous deadline and over the winter, but they wouldn’t part with either,” McDaniel wrote.
The Dodgers will have to sacrifice a lot to land Skubal. But Los Angeles could be open to the idea if it gave them a better chance of winning a third straight World Series championship.
