My question was "who have we extended with 3 years left on a cheap contract?".

No one, but that is because that situation doesn't present itself very often.

Hopkins was being severely underpaid in comparison to his production and it is believed to have been a stipulation of making the trade that we would be willing to pay him.

Therefor it only makes sense that we would extend him, even if he does have 3 years left.

Deshaun Watson on DeAndre Hopkins Hail Mary catch: “That’s just Hop”

Former Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins made a catch for the ages on Sunday. Current Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, along with other former Hopkins teammates, witnessed the moment as it happened.

“We were on the plane ride coming back from Cleveland,” Watson told reporters on Wednesday. “I mean, that’s just Hop. No surprise. That’s a guy that does that on the daily basis. That’s what he’s known for, being legendary in legendary moments. He made a great play for them and he got them the W.”

Indeed he did, and every big play Hopkins makes operates as a twist to the knife in the gut of Texans fans who wish Houston had found a way to keep him. But the team didn’t want to rip up the remaining years on his contract and give Hopkins the raise he wanted.

Although most of the blame for the trade has been placed on former coach/G.M. Bill O’Brien, owner Cal McNair signed off on the move.

“[W]hen Hopkins wanted to re-do his contract, it just wasn’t something we could do,” McNair said last month.

So it wasn’t just O’Brien. It was the organization. Or at least it was the people in the organization who don’t line up and play.

The Arizona Cardinals’ newest superstar wide receiver has passed the team’s future Hall of Fame wide receiver as the youngest player in NFL history with 700 career receptions.

DeAndre Hopkins secured pass number 700 in his career at age 28 during the second quarter of the Cardinals’ Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks, one year earlier than teammate Larry Fitzgerald’s 700 reception accomplishment at age 29.

Hopkins also became the fifth player to reach 700 receptions during the first eight seasons of a career, joining Antonio Brown, Torry Holt, Brandon Marshall and Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.

It’s the second week in a row Hopkins has entered the NFL record books, as during the thrilling win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, he became the second player in NFL history with at least 50 receptions and 800 receiving yards in each of the first eight seasons of a career, joining former Cardinal Gary Clark.
