I sure hope they are not dumb enough to reach for a later round QB in the top 15 of the draft. I don't remember any surprise reaches in the 1st round working out. I only remember names like Christian Ponder, Gabbert, Manziel, etc... People were surprised when they went so high and for good reason. Does anyone remember a QB (in the last 20 years) that was a big reach, panning out? Without researching, I can't think of any.

Tom Brady was a 6th Rounder.

2017: Budda Baker
2016: traded for Chandler Jones
2015: Marcus Golden
2014: Troy Niklas
2013: Kevin Minter

i dunno -- the second round -- Niklas aside -- has been pretty by the book

interestingly: the guy who looked like a reach at the time -- Golden, has been really good

the guy they took right in line with expectations -- Minter, was merely ok / meh

I think the point more was "when have guys been taken super early compared to their predicted draft position and panned out?"

Teddy Bridgewater kind of worked out and was a bit of a reach in the 1st... (looking at a list)

Teddy Bridgewater
Joe Flacco (was a borderline 1st rounder but going in the top 20 for a QB from Delaware)
Drew Brees? (I don't remember exactly where he was evaluated to go)

I mean, plenty of teams would have been very happy with selecting Derek Carr, Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garoppolo, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, Nick Foles, or Andy Dalton earlier than they were projected to be drafted in the past 10 years.

I think this is what he was saying

as an example:

assume the Seahawks took Russel Wilson with their first round pick

on draft day: REACH!
today: GENIUS!

This isn't true. No one should/would say that Tom Brady should have been the #1 overall pick in his draft class. Same with Drew Brees.

why?

are you suggesting that the Patriots would/should be criticized today had they taken Tom Brady in the first round?

A few months ago I read (somewhere??) that Arizona liked Mason Rudolph.
I know for a fact they scouted Rudolph in Stillwater twice during the season, and heard from 2 other guys once (for sure) and possibly twice on the road. Take it for what it's worth. So a minimum of 3 times, so who knows......I can no way see Falk.

Edit: For some reason what I typed didn't show up.

Anyways Steve Keim actually personally scouted Josh Allen, I am sure they did their due diligence with all the top QBs

Mason Rudolph is the guy I want.
Yeah, he's the one who has the best chance to move up the boards. I'm not sure if he's the one I 'want', but he's definitely the guy that the Cards could draft at 15, unless he bombs at the combine.

We Purdue fans would have said that Brees should have been an overall #1, but then again, no one ever accused us of being non-biased.
