Did the Boston Celtics pull off some addition by subtraction when they dealt Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and draft assets on July 1?There is a case to be made that under the NBA's current collective bargaining agreement (CBA), having two players earning a supermax contract can actually hurt your ball club more than one would think two players of that caliber being on one roster might help.
This is due to how little room will be left over to fill out the rest of the roster, but can also have some play style aspects to it when one of those players -- like Brown -- needs certain sort of players on the court to help ameliorate extant (if minor) weak points in their game that only show up at the highest levels.
The folks behind the "WEEI Boston Sports Original" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Rich and Ken with Ted Johnson" show to talk it all over. Check it out below!
