Jaylen Brown and Stephen A Smith have been locked in a war of words over the past week or two. It all began when Brown declared this past season as the "favorite" of his career, a comment that ultimately led him to receive wide-ranging criticism. Unfortunately for the Boston Celtics star, Smith was among the loudest critics, especially on ESPN's First Take.
In recent episodes of Brown's Twitch livestreams, the Celtics' forward has clapped back at Smith, thus creating a very public back-and-forth between the two. The discourse has created something of a divide, with the majority of Celtics fans understanding that Brown's comments, while poorly timed, were taken out of context.
Smith's part in the back-and-forth has also led to some criticism, with accusations of unprofessionalism and bullying from NBA fans on social media. During a recent episode of the "Dan Dakich Unfiltered" podcast, Dakich let rip on Smith for his part in the ongoing feud.
Brown isn't the first player Smith has had a public disagreement with. We saw it during Russell Westbrook's tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and with Kyrie Irving during his time on the Brooklyn Nets.
Brown is just the latest player to find himself in the crosshairs. Nevertheless, Celtics fans will hope that the back-and-forth between the two can come to an end.
After all, the Celtics' focus should be on how to improve ahead of next season, not what Brown or Smith are saying about each other.

"Stephen A. Smith is (expletive), whining, and moaning, but this time he's threatening an NBA superstar, Jaylen Brown. He's threatening to 'quote' expose him. You can't do this stuff," Dakich said. "...These dudes on ESPN, well, they can threaten NBA stars on air, on ESPN's air? Holy hell. Good for Stephen A. Smith...But I've said before, and I'll say again, what does Stephen A. Smith actually do other than this kind of stupidity? Can't put him on Monday Night Football. Can't put him on NBA stuff. Can't put him on Major League Baseball. Can't put him on nothing but his little show."
