The Diamondbacks returned from the All-Star break over the weekend and conclude their three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday afternoon, July 19, at Chase Field.
That series began a stretch of 13 consecutive game days as the Diamondbacks try to keep pace in the National League wild-card standings.
The Athletics are at Chase Field July 20-22, then it's a makeup of a postponed game on July 23 in St. Louis and three games in Washington, D.C., against the Nationals to round out the week July 24-26.
The A's fell off in their pursuit of the American League West lead, going into the All-Star break on a nine-game losing streak. They were 41-55 on July 17, and, with a 5.21 earned run average as a pitching staff at the break, pitching coach Scott Emerson was fired.
On June 20, the Athletics were in contention in the AL West, at .500 and a half-game behind the first-place Seattle Mariners. Then the A's lost 17 of their next 20 games.
Seven players are on the injured list, including key players Zack Gelof, Denzel Clarke and Opening Day starter Luis Severino. Brent Rooker, a key leader on the team, is out for the season after knee surgery last month.
The Diamondbacks' game in St. Louis this week is an unfortunate scheduling situation that arose when the team didn't play on a getaway day in June due to inclement weather. The decision was made to take an off day away from the Diamondbacks and force them to play an extra game on their way to start a road trip on the East Coast.
The Nationals have wild-card aspirations of their own, going into the break at 48-49 but having lost three straight. Washington is led by All-Stars CJ Abrams and James Wood, as well as rising first baseman Luis Garcia Jr.
The Nationals took two of three games from the Diamondbacks June 5-7 at Chase Field.

Athletics (Chase Field): 6:40 p.m. July 20 and 21, 12:40 p.m. on July 22
At Cardinals: 2:15 p.m. on July 23
At Nationals: 3:45 p.m. on July 24, 1:05 on July 25 and 10:35 a.m. on July 26.
