LOS ANGELES — The Diamondbacks placed right-hander Zac Gallen on the injured list on Sunday, July 12, with right elbow inflammation and replaced him on the roster with the pitcher who will start in his place at Dodger Stadium, left-hander Mitch Bratt.

Lovullo said Gallen informed the team after his start last week in San Diego that he had felt something in his elbow. Lovullo said tests showed only inflammation, and he did not know how long it would sideline Gallen.

Bratt will be making his second start with the Diamondbacks. In his major league debut last month in St. Louis, he threw three innings of one-run ball against the Cardinals. He has logged four innings in each of his past two starts for Triple-A Reno and figures to have a limit somewhere in the 60-70 pitch range against the Dodgers.

Lovullo, though, made mention of his rested bullpen and his preference to get some of his relievers into the game, so it could be another abbreviated start for Bratt regardless of his pitch count.
