To make room on the active roster, the Tigers optioned rookie catcher Eduardo Valenciato Triple-A Toledo after an unforgettable first stint in the Major Leagues.

Torres Returns to Detroit's Lineup

Torres returns after missing time with an injury, giving Detroit one of its most productive hitters back as the club continues its push toward the postseason.

The three time All Star was enjoying another solid campaign before landing on the injured list. In 157 at bats this season, Torres is batting .280 with 44 hits, four home runs, 18 RBIs, a .395 on base percentage, and a .790 OPS.

His return provides another boost to a Tigers offense looking to gain ground in the American League Wild Card race.

Valencia Heads Back to Toledo After Memorable Debut

While his stay in Detroit was brief, Valencia certainly made the most of it.

The 26 year old made headlines by homering in his first Major League at bat against the Athletics and continued to swing a hot bat during his short time with the Tigers.

In just 12 at-bats, Valencia hit .417 with two home runs, five hits, three RBIs, and an eye-popping 1.378 OPS.

With Torres returning, Valencia becomes the odd man out from a roster standpoint, but his impressive performance likely strengthened his case for another opportunity later this season.

A Good Problem for Detroit

The move reflects the depth the Tigers have built throughout the organization.

Getting Torres back gives Detroit another experienced bat in the middle of the lineup, while Valencia heads back to Toledo with confidence after proving he can produce at the Major League level.

If injuries strike again or another roster need arises, don't be surprised if Valencia is back in Detroit sooner rather than later.
