The Detroit Tigers made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday, and one key player is headed back to the injured list while another is set to return to the mound.
The team announced that second baseman Gleyber Torres has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. It is the same injury that sidelined Torres for nearly a month earlier this season, forcing him to miss games from May 4 through June 2.
The setback comes just weeks after Torres returned to Detroit’s lineup. Before the latest injury, the three-time All-Star was batting .259 with two home runs, 11 RBIs, and a .389 on-base percentage.
While the Tigers are losing an important piece of their lineup, they are getting a boost on the pitching side.
In a corresponding move, Detroit reinstated right-hander Casey Mize from the injured list. Mize is scheduled to start Wednesday’s game and will immediately slide back into the Tigers’ rotation.
Before landing on the injured list, Mize had been enjoying one of the best stretches of his career. The former No. 1 overall pick entered the day with a 2.27 ERA, a 0.965 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts across 47.2 innings this season.
The Tigers will now hope Mize’s return can help stabilize a team that has been battling injuries throughout much of the 2026 campaign, while Torres begins another recovery process from the lingering oblique issue.
