Apr. 4—Coming into the season, Jordan Davis was in an interesting spot.

Davis, who was starting his junior season, had been a starter for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy since he was a seventh grader, but despite his being a star player for four seasons, the Eagles needed more from him. They were losing multiple starters from a Final Four team, including Decatur Daily 2025 Player of the Year Brady Wilson.

Their young veteran proved up to the task. He averaged 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists with 89 steals on the year. His big year earned him the 2026 Decatur Daily Class 1A-4A Boys Player of the Year.

"We were losing a lot of seniors, and so I felt like it was an opportunity for me to step up and get to lead the team," Davis said. "I worked hard all offseason and summer, and I knew I was going to have a better season than I had last year."

Davis, who was first-team All-Area for The Decatur Daily last season, took his game to another level. He improved from 15 points per game to 25. As big a jump as it was, head Coach Jason Marshall expected it.

"We lost a lot of key pieces, so we needed him to up his game," Marshall said. "He's so talented and athletic, and he's also in the gym constantly, so it wasn't a surprise to see him do the things that he did."

As crazy as it sounds for a player who already has started for five seasons, Davis' time at Decatur Heritage isn't over yet. He still has one season remaining, and the scary part for opposing teams is he doesn't feel like he's done improving. He's already set lofty goals for his senior season.

"You can always do better, and I feel like I still haven't played my best," Davis said. "Next year I'm going to average a double-double at least."

Marshall said he wouldn't put that past his star point guard.

"That would be wonderful because he's so athletic and he can really change the game when he's rebounding like that," Marshall said. "We know he can score 25-30 points a game, but If he's putting up those kind of rebounds, then it's going to set us up for a great season."

But stats aren't everything.

Decatur Heritage's season ended early this year when the Eagles were upset in the Sweet 16 by Cold Springs. Davis said he doesn't want that to happen again.

"That lit a fire under me and the rest of the team because we felt like we were better than that," Davis said. "We think we have what it takes to win a championship, so that's what we're going to do."
