Meh...... Beyond the Superman with Christopher Reeve, they're never going to make everyone happy with a Superman film. Can't be done.

It was super obvious during creature commandos but Gunn is just telling the same ensemble story over and over. Peacemaker is the only character focused thing he has done in the superhero space.

As I said when this first came out, I would like a Superman focused movie, not another goofball team up

The last trailer really gave me a weird vibe. It definitely looks more "humorous" and "cartoony" than any previous Superman based on that last trailer. I was getting that vibe with the CGI Krypto during the teaser and I was thinking that's where this is going. The last trailer seems to confirm it. This is an exaggeration but it almost has a Superfriends cartoon vibe to it.

I personally don't mind the team up aspect as long as the focus is on Supes. Besides, one thing I have ALWAYS absolutely hated about Superhero films is that lack of acknowledgment of their fellow heroes. It's just always been ridiculous to me, IMO.

That's why early MCU worked so well for me. They had standalone films but they were always world building and slowly bringing it all together. To me the early MCU was a masterclass in world building for film. It's funny because my daughter who just graduated from Animation/Film, brought up that in her film classes this was brought up multiple times by multiple professors.

I don't think DC has the luxury of organic world building like the MCU did early on. I just think DC screwed themselves with such a piss poor plan, followed by a piss poor band-aide plan and maybe a piss poor start over plan with all these properties moving forward that have ties to the old DCCU.

I am a big fan of Gunn's outside SS2 but I think his hands were tied because of things outside of his control (what came before and what the studio decided to keep moving forward). I really hope he hits it out of the park but DC fans have a ton to be wary about.

First reactions appear to be positive.

I find all these pre-release things to be a joke--no shade on the poster here. I'm only reading headlines for the moment, until the movie is out. I've read an equal number of "first reviews are positive" or "glowing" and "first reviews are negative" or "awful." I don't think we'll know anything real until the release. Which is, wow, this week already.

Yep. Just posting what I found. I am sure there is the entire gamut out there.

something has to be legendarily bad for "first reactions" to be negative. I mean... first reactions to crap like The Flash and even Rise Of Skywalker were pretty positive.

Here's what I want/will settle for - just a good, entertaining movie where I believe in the inherent goodness of Superman and a new take on the character that i can hook into. If this is a good Superman character, anything else is gravy.

Tis as I feared.

Most of these elements are fitfully amusing on their own, but in a film where Lois Lane only gets a few minutes of meaningful screentime and Superman is afforded less of an emotional foundation than Star-Lord ever got, it’s hard not to get antsy when a Justice Gang member suddenly becomes the main character for a while. Edi Gathegi is great-and-a-half as Mr. Terrific, but I’d rather see that character lead his own movie than watch him walk away with this one

RT certified it as Fresh with only 83 reviews. I hate RT. I've been researching them for a project In working on and since they aquired Fandango, they've done more of this up boost ticket sales for Fandango.

I believe they are happy with a slapstick comedy with a bunch of world building. I see this as basically Thor Love and Thunder.
Maybe they welcome a return to "Superman." He is not a dark and brooding hero like Batman.

Some of the negative reviews are likely coming from people resistant to changing to a new actor and ditching HC as Supes. They need to get over their butthurt. This is now Gunn's DCU.

We'll go see it with open minds.

Even the positive reviews have been very clear it's basically Guardians of the Galaxy humor. Saturday morning cartoons is the over riding theme across any review and you can take that as a positive or a negative as you wish.

...or are coming from the "Why the hell is it jam packed full of so many super characters?" perspective.
