It's getting heated out here. The Raiders head coach search was looking like it was down to Klint Kubiak or Davis Webb. Specifically that they want Kubiak, but if they don't get him, Webb appeared to be a fallback option. Well, he is no longer an option. Webb has removed himself from consideration for the Raiders job.
This comes just days after Broncos head coach Sean Payton said of the prospect of Webb taking the Raiders job that it would be "a pain in the ass" for him.
At this point, that means Webb is either taking the head coach position with the Arizona Cardinals or staying with the Broncos. Perhaps with a promotion to OC since the Broncos fired Joe Lombardi this week.
It also means the Raiders eggs are officially in one basket. It seemed clear they have long had their sights set on Kubiak, and if they land him, none of this will matter. It just makes it a whole lot more urgent that they succeed in their courtship with Kubiak who is expected to take part in an in-person interview in Las Vegas on Saturday.
But even if all goes well, the hiring can't occur for another week because Kubiak is coaching in the Super Bowl.
